Meet the Fort Lauderdale Team Behind Sightline Windows & Doors Fort Lauderdale

Every window and door we install in Fort Lauderdale passes through the hands of people who live here, work here, and understand what a Category 3 hurricane does to a second-story opening. Our crew isn’t rotated in from another state or pulled from a temp pool. We’re the same technicians who measured your neighbor’s frames in Coral Ridge, who pulled permits for a full-glass lift-slide in Harbor Beach, and who answer the phone at 11 PM when a customer in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea needs to know if their order shipped. Sonia Raman, Owner

I started Sightline in Fort Lauderdale in 2012 after twelve years as a glazing contractor watching customers get one price on the phone and another when the crew showed up. That still happens, and it still makes no sense to me. Haven Clause 1 - Have it in writing - means the measurement document and the quote are the same piece of paper, signed before anyone touches a tool. I keep a set of calipers and a moisture meter in my truck because I still do spot-checks on active jobs, usually unannounced. When I’m not on site, I’m reviewing photo records from completed installations or arguing with a manufacturer rep about why a particular PGT WinGuard frame arrived without the specified laminated glass thickness. I live in Victoria Park with my husband and a rescue dog who has learned to sleep through impact-glass demonstrations in the garage.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus has been with us since 2017, which in this trade means he’s opened roughly 2,400 wall openings and closed every one of them to within 1/16 inch. He’s certified for PGT and CGI impact installations, holds a Miami-Dade County Notice of Acceptance card for high-velocity hurricane zone work, and can read a structural engineer’s anchoring schedule without calling the office. His specialty is retrofits in older Fort Lauderdale homes - the 1950s ranch houses in Imperial Point with original steel frames, the 1970s stucco in Coral Ridge where the rough opening has settled into a parallelogram. Marcus carries a leather-bound notebook where he sketches every unusual condition before photographing it, a habit from his grandfather who was a shipwright in Port Everglades. He’ll tell you the notebook is for liability documentation; the rest of us know he just likes drawing things correctly.

Elena V., Senior Installer

Elena came to us from commercial curtainwall work in 2019, which means she thinks residential openings are almost relaxing by comparison. She handles our custom and geometric window installations - trapezoids in Las Olas Isles, round-tops in Rio Vista, the occasional octagonal accent window that a homeowner saw in a magazine and decided they needed. She’s factory-trained on ES Windows and ECO Window Systems, and she’s the person we send when a job requires field-fabricating a head flashing detail that doesn’t exist in the manufacturer’s catalog. Elena grew up in Hialeah and still drives down to her mother’s house every Sunday for cafecito and to complain about Florida’s humidity and what it does to butyl tape adhesion. She has a photography degree from Broward College, which explains why her job-site photo records are consistently the best in the company.

Darnell K., Service Coordinator

Darnell answers the phones that ring at midnight, schedules the measurements, and makes sure the right glass spec is on the truck before it leaves our Fort Lauderdale facility. He’s been with Sightline since 2020, which means he lived through the supply-chain chaos of 2021-2022 and still has the spreadsheet templates he built to track lead times by manufacturer down to the week. Darnell speaks with every customer before their installation to confirm the product line, the color, and whether they have a dog that needs to be secured when the crew arrives. He’s the one who calls after completion to schedule the photo-record review and warranty documentation. Darnell lives in Plantation, coaches youth basketball at Central Park, and has a running bet with Marcus about whether the Hurricanes or the Dolphins will finish with a worse record each year. He has never won this bet, but he keeps making it.

James R., Apprentice Installer

James joined us in 2023 through a partnership with a Broward County vocational program, which means he’s learning the trade from Marcus and Elena instead of from YouTube. He started on demolition and job-site protection - the unglamorous work of sealing living spaces from dust and debris - and has progressed to rough-opening prep, sill pan installation, and basic vinyl replacement windows. He’s currently working toward his CGI impact-installation certification and can already identify a failed insulated glass unit by the condensation pattern faster than some technicians with five years in the field. James grew up in Fort Lauderdale, went to Stranahan High, and lives with his grandmother in Dorsey-Riverbend. He asks more questions than any apprentice we’ve had, which is exactly why we hired him.
