Aftermarket balances and rollers exist for EnergyVue, but we don’t install them on Winguard impact units. Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing

• The sash drops or won’t stay open. This usually means the coil balance system has lost tension or the pivot bar has worn where it seats in the balance shoe. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, the galvanized balance springs corrode faster than inland specs predict; we replace them with stainless hardware.
• Visible fog or moisture between glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed. On PGT units, this is almost always a spacer seal breach, not glass damage. The IGU is a replaceable component; you don’t need a full window unless the frame is compromised.

There’s a safe middle ground. You can check the etched glass mark, photograph the frame label, and verify whether the window is square in the opening with a tape measure (diagonal measurements within 1/8 inch). That information saves us time and you money.

Where DIY goes wrong: removing a PGT sash without understanding the balance tension can release a coil spring at force; laminated impact glass weighs roughly 2.5x standard glass and requires two people with proper suction cups; and an improperly seated IGU voids the NOA and your insurance discount. We don’t recommend homeowner glass handling on any unit over 40 pounds or above ground floor.
